Abortion, debunked.

I am really thankful I had a writing class and a speech class before this semester's government class. We had a speech assignment this week: abortion---to restrict or not to restrict?
Obviously it's easy for me to know which side of the argument I stand on. :) I should add that this is from a political view, not a spiritual one. For classes we have to keep things formal. Here are some responses to pro-choice/pro-murder statements.

"It's not a baby, it's a fetus."
Wrong. Fetus is the Latin word for infant, offspring, child, or baby. It's the same as using the English word baby. Fetus does not mean clump of cells.

"It's not a human yet."
Wrong. It has it's own human DNA, and it was made by two people. Two people cannot make a cat or another species. Also, when would you say the magical moment of personhood happens? (nobody can ever answer this question)

"It's not a baby, it's a parasite, like a tapeworm."
Wrong. According to you, it will eventually become a person. A tapeworm will only ever be a tapeworm."

"What about rape?"
In rape, three people are involved: the rapist, the raped, and the child. Of these three, the raped and the child are innocent, while the rapist is the guilty. However, more often than not the child receives punishment---the death penalty. The guilty should be paying the price, not the innocent.

"The woman has a right to choose what she does with it."
Yes, she does. But, her rights are limited, and when it comes to taking a life, she has no right.

"They are unwanted."
A. That may be, but they still have their own rights... the most important being the right to life. And for all the "unwanted" children in adoption centers---should we kill them too just because they are unwanted? What about elderly people?
B. We know what causes babies. If you don't want a baby, avoid taking the chance.

"If we outlaw abortion people will do it anyways."
Just because people will do it anyway doesn't mean we shouldn’t do our best to stop them in the first place. We still have laws against murder, but we know people will still be murdered. We need laws to bring justice to those who break them.

Choose life, friends!

Excellent! Great and factual argument. You should get an A+ on that one.
